Continuous Gravitational Wave Emissions from Neutron Stars with Pinned Superfluids in the Core

چکیده

We investigate the effect of a pinned superfluid component on gravitational wave emission rotating neutron star. Pinning vortices to flux-tubes in outer core (where protons are likely form type-II superconductor) is possible mechanism sustain long-lived and non-axisymmetric currents interior, that break axial symmetry unperturbed hydrostatic configuration. consider pinning-induced perturbations stationary corotating configuration, determine upper limits strength due pinning with strong toroidal magnetic field kind predicted by recent magneto-hydrodynamic simulations star interiors. estimate contributions from both mass current multipole generated vorticity core, find quadrupole can be large enough for waves provide dominant spindown torque millisecond pulsars.

Superconducting Superfluids in Neutron Stars

For treatment of the layers below the crust of a neutron star it is useful to employ a relativistic model involving three independently moving constituents, representing superfluid neutrons, superfluid protons, and degenerate negatively charged leptons. A Kalb Ramond type formulation is used here to develop such a model for the specific purpose of application at the semi macroscopic level chara...

Detecting gravitational wave emission from the known accreting neutron stars

Detection of gravitational waves from accreting neutron stars (NSs) in our galaxy, due to ellipticity or internal oscillation, would be a breakthrough in our understanding of compact objects and explain the absence of NSs rotating near the break-up limit. Direct detection, however, poses a formidable challenge. Using the current data available on the properties of the accreting NSs in Low Mass ...

Cosmological Gravitational Wave Background from Phase Transitions in Neutron Stars

It has recently been suggested that collapse of neutron stars induced by a phase transition to quark matter can be a considerable source of gravitational waves with kHz frequencies. We demonstrate that if about one percent of all neutron stars undergo this process, the resulting cosmological gravitational wave background would reach about 10 times the critical density. The background would peak...

Gravitational wave emission from rotating superfluid neutron stars

In this paper we investigate the effect of a pinned superfluid component on the gravitational wave emission of a steadily rotating deformed neutron star. We show that the superfluid pinning allows the possibility for there to be gravitational wave emission at both the stellar spin frequency Ω and its first harmonic, 2Ω. This contrasts with the conventional case where there is no pinned superflu...
